1. Use a safe location to meet. Many police/ sheriff stations have now established sales locations in their parking lots. 
2. Beware of unrealistic prices or offers. If it seems too good to be true, it just might be. 
3. Use caution transacting with a buyer or seller you have never met in person.
4. Consider avoiding online payment systems (paypal, venmo, etc), wires, money orders and cashiers checks. These forms of payment can all be faked or used fraudulently. 6. If transacting in cash, consider meeting at the bank. Witnessing the cash being withdrawn is a good way to safeguard against counterfeits. Alternatively, you could deposit the money before exchanging title, but you should speak to the bank ahead of time to discuss their policies on checking deposited currency for counterfeits, as some do not verify until days later.
7. Do not share sensitive personal financial information (i.e. bank account numbers).
8. Ensure the vehicle has a legitimate title & a bill of sale is prepared. 
9. Exchange driver's license information and ensure the seller is the listed owner on the vehicle title.
